Wireless Headset Compatability Woes

So recently I got the Messenger Kit, and previously I had the wireless headset.  As I posted not long after getting the messenger kit, I found out that it is not possible to use the Messenger Kit and MY wireless headset together (same problem I saw with the DDR dancemat so long ago).  I just accepted that it wouldn’t work with the dance pad, but now the addition of the chatpad starts to annoy me.  There was no warning on any of the packages of the wireless headset, the DDR Mat, OR the messenger kit indicating they cannot work together, yet clearly mine does not.

Strangely enough a friend of mine said he uses his wireless headset and has the messenger kit connected all the time - so that got me thinking that perhaps its just my headset - and I called support.  Support WILL replace my headset, but its going to cost me $59.99 - yeah thats what it would cost me at the store on any normal day - and I might be able to find a sale for even less.  I understand that you cannot support a product forever, but the fact that I got the wireless headset when they first came out, and the messenger kit just recently makes it physically impossible to see a compatability problem between the two devices within the 90 warranty - so how is it fair I have to rebuy a device because the one I bought was defective - but coudnt possibly know that until almost a year later.  Needless to say, I don’t use the wireless headset enough to justify paying essentially $120 for it, forget all the bad reviews, and times I remember hearing - “reset your F***ing mic” on Gears of War because of the weird feedback it would give in that game - I wont be getting a new one.

But now I wonder - what other devices have compatibility problems with my wireless headset - and how many people are having similar issues.  Leave a comment - I am curious what devices you have and if the wireless headset works or not.

The xbox 360 has quite a few accessories out now, and all of them SHOULD be supported with the wireless headset, since I cannot find any verbage saying otherwise, but I am curious how many people have working combinations - and how many have similar problems to mine

  1. I don’t see how any other accessory could interfere with your wireless headset as it doesn’t really tie to your controller as much as it does your actual console. I guess it’s possible but I’m thinking its another issue your having.

  2. Also to add to that, I have almost every attachment known to xbox 360 including the guitars, both wired and wireless and both types of dance pads as well as scene it… Only thing i don’t have is the chat pad… I also have the wireless headset and have used it with all these devices and had no problems.

  3. @Bleed0ut - trust me its my wireless working with the chatpad or the dance pad, but I know others have working versions (also have friends with broken versions) just wondering how many have the same problem - especially since support wont do anything to resolve the problem.

I could create a video showing the problem with the dancepad or the chatpad - this guy refers to the problem im talking about here

there is actually alot of footage of defective headsets

so I am not suprised i got so lucky - just wish i didnt have to drop another $60 of my own money to resolve it, when its a relatively known issue.

  4. I hate to get off subject a tad bit, but I recently purchased the Nyko brand battery charger that comes with 2 recharable batteries (it was half off). There are numerous problems with getting the batteries to work with the controllers. For some reason the batteries will make the controller not sync with the system, unless you use a xbox recharge kit and do all these steps. I finally got 1 battery to work for 1 controler and the other on another controller, but they can be switched as they wont sync. I like this article though, because I just stepped on my 3rd wired headset (1 with pro console, 1 with elite console, and 1 bought) and I was just planning on getting a wireless or nothing. But after reading these problems and problems possibily not being 100% complete, I may just go without a mic. Thanks squid!!

  5. That does suck. The only accessories I have are a Play-n-charge kit, the instruments from Rock Band, and a Guitar Hero 2 guitar; so no issues there, but none of those are wireless.

  6. What I want to know is how the chatpad interferes with the mic. It shouldn’t draw any power that the mic is using (mic has battery) and doesn’t give off any interference. It might be the fact that when you plug the chat pad in, it also plugs in the 3.5mm connector where the headset goes and the controller thinks ‘Oh, hey, wired mic. Let’s use that’ even though there’s nothing plugged into the chatpad’s mic input. Kinda strange.

  7. I wish microsoft would use the A band, that would solve a lot of problems with all the interference these devices seem to cause each other, it’s never good idea to use an already very clogged 2.4ghz range.

  8. I too have no problems with any compatibility between any of my accessories (chargers, vision camera, scene it, guitars, wireless headset) I am a bit of an accessory nut it seems!

  9. I have not tried this yet, but is how i found this site.

I have the chatpad, and a wireless mic. Unfortunatly my wireless mic will not charge anymore. (buy a new, and place the old one back in the box)

but i was wondering if they will link up. An issue i have had that “WON’T” link up, is a “Trash Talker” a little device that plugs into the mic port on your controller. It has buttons that plays .wav files for 16 different pre-programmed sayings.

if i plug that in, i can not get my wireless to link up. Hoping that it wasn’t the same way for the chat pad. I have every accessory xbox has made for the 360. I will post my findings when i test it.

  10. Hi All,

I have had a wireless mic and chad pad now for about 9months, and they have been working perfectly together. then all of a sudden BOOM! NO they didnt blow up! :) they no longer worked together??? i was like, what on earth??? i have tried different controllers, nothing, the mic just wont detect the controller with the chat pad in it. Now i play with the mic, while the chat pad, sits comfortably next to me, waiting to be used when i want to type a message. sure my mic gets disconnect while using it, but what can i do??? I just wonder, is it the mic, or the chad pads fault??? why so many problems with the xbox!!! its like a wife, you hate and love at the same time, you cant live with it, and cant live without it. :( if anyone has any suggestions, please email me at sherif.ghobrial@gm.com…thanks

  11. ironically mine started working one day - for a little while - finally the wireless headset completely died and wouldn’t even accept the charge, so my battle between headset and chatpad has come to an end - looks like the chatpad won.
