360Friendspot on fire

Not 100% sure what is going on - I got an email from the host about high CPU usage and was attempting to look at the things they provided me as troubleshooting steps, but they seemed to have disabled the site for now.

I know the traffic was up more then it has been in quite some time, but it wasn’t high enough that it should have been affecting the CPU usage of the shared server (which is what they mentioned in the email from support).

So I am currently waiting for a response from support about the site, and if the site was going to be this active on a regular basis I definately would have to start looking into upgraded the hosting plan again - all though it really looks like there is some problem with one of the apps I have running on the site which is what is slowing it (and apparently many other sites) down.

I’ll post more if/when I know more to post!

  1. I was wondering what was up… I tried to register several times but it wouldn’t let me, so I will try again when I get home.

  2. I was wondering what was happening. Hope it comes back up soon.

  3. When you affect CPU usage it just means that your website has too many connections coming that are lasting longer than it’s allotted to.

If you need help finding some hosting, I’d be obliged to help you out. I can offer some sweet hosting deals on a VPS (virtual private server) that can hopefully ease the hosting issues, and also increase your load time.

  4. @jordan - I might take you up on the offer, I am a bit cheap though, especially when the site runs fine under normal circumstances….its running ok as far as I know now, I found a few areas which were doing some pretty intense things - and those pages were getting spammed pretty good to so I THINK thats what was giving such an extra CPU load - and more obvious with all the traffic etc !

VPS is where I would go if I did upgrade, but like I said in a week after this contest is over 360friendspot.com traffic will end up back down where it was - just some efficiency tweaks should fix it up nicely - unless people stick around which I have no problem if people actually use the site!

  5. Could be because of the find the achievement contest is driving a lot more traffic to your site.

  6. @E5150 it is - but not any where near the traffic that should have caused that bad of an issue, i think it tracked it down to a pretty intense script which was A. being spammed, and B. getting used pretty regularly because of the contest as well

time will tell, so far the site has had high traffic again, and no nasty emails from the host.
