Crackdown All Nighter Update
Well they never seem to send out a notice to those of us who do not win the random swag for these things, but I like to read the stories posted by others so I try to keep tabs on them and check back for the stories and what people won. In the Most Recent All Nighter 8 random people got a Crackdown punching bag and hat.
Crackdown Patched….
According to Major Nelson, there is a patch for Crackdown…
The update ‘addresses several minor technical issues to ensure a smoother online gameplay experience’ and ‘increases the number of ambient gang vehicles that populate Pacific City.’
I wonder if they put a stealth update in there to fix the Invisible Car Glitch
Crackdown All Nighter Recap
Well I participated in yet another “All Nighter”, boy do I love these things. This one was a bit different then the previous all nighters though because the most that can participate in a single game is 2, (the other two were Gears of War and Lost Planet – so versus mode shooters with more player interaction). In any event me and my buddy Ymiris rolled up our sleeves and hit the streets for some Crackdown fun.
We both have all the gang bosses finished, so all that really is left to do is to create havoc and work on achievements. I had great plans for the night, such as getting the rest of the achievements I am missing – which unfortunately did not actually end up happening – but I did make quite a bit of progress towards my goals. Ymiris on the other hand pulled off 4 new achievements
. I spent most of my time just bouncing from rooftop to rooftop, finishing up some rooftop races, and picking up any orbs that I came across. I probably picked up 75 to 100 agility orbs last night (only about 90 to go!).
Towards the end of our session Ymiris would tell you that I was getting delirious – and honestly I think he is right. I started just saying random sentences, and after I finished, even I couldnt figure out what I was trying to say. I knew it was time to quit when I jumped and before I landed i actually started to fall asleep, I jumped up startled from the rumble of my controller from being shot at, I am not even sure how long I sat there half asleep and probably snoring in my friends ear via my headset.
There were also rumors running around the internet that a new download content (and the final 100 points) would be released during this all nighter, so we were anxiously looking for that – it either didnt happen, or we ended up quitting before it was finally released.
We ended the night with an interesting little glitch which allowed us to drive an invisible car all over Pacific City – nothing is funnier then an invisible exploding car while 2 characters are in it.
Various Random Things
Play and Win Shooter / Gears of War
Well I finally got an achievement last night during my Gears of War session last night. It was one of the pretty simple achievements – Mix it Up – where you just need to be on the winning team of the 3 different game types. It was also brought to my attention that even though I thought I was going to get a 100 kills with a [insert weapon here] achievement, that there is not one for shotgun kills – which was what most all my achievements were based on, and the one I assumed was going to rack me another achievement, so that wasn’t very wise of me I would say. Thanks to Antediluvia for bringing this to light. This concludes the dates that you can recieve an entry in the Play & Win Shooter Contest, and I believe I should get an entry for each of the 3 days . . . winning is a long shot – but it doesn’t hurt to try (and those prizes are pretty smooth).
Shadowrun Beta
I recently recieved my beta invitation to Shadowrun, but haven’t dedicated a ton of time to it as of yet. Of course in the invitation the NDA was restated that not much else can be said except “Yes, I am playing the beta”. So until the NDA is lifted dont expect to hear a ton more about that. You can keep track of my play time on the game in my Live Eye Profile as you can see at the moment I have only played about an hour or so. Over at 360friendspot we have about 62 current live eye members in the beta and being tracked by our tool, you can see an overview of those users at the Shadow Run Beta Profile Page

360Friendspot / LiveEye
Speaking of 360friendspot and The Live Eye, last night I spent a good amount of time updating some queries after seeing a bunch of sleeping records in the SQL Activity Monitor. This was a hope that what might be causing the slowness or hanging of the site was related to SQL table locks – since I was definately getting time out errors and transactions were hanging out here sleeping. If that resolves, or at least partially resolves the performance issues – I am going to be extremely pleased, but also upset that I didnt find it sooner. I am sure there are more things to optimize – but maybe I am at least going in the right direction at this point.
Crackdown All Nighter, and Rumors
Finally – Happy St Patricks day, and look for an update from my all nighter activities at a later date. Achievements and random video goodness will most likely come of it. There is A rumor posted in my comments about this all nighter being a time that they release some new content or the final 100 points – no clue what that user based it on – but I am all for it!
Crackdown Review
About the game:
Crackdown is extremely well known all over the xbox community for a number of reasons. The first perhaps being that they are giving out access to the Halo 3 beta with a copy of the game. Many (including myself) came to the conclusion that if they were giving away a feature like this in this specific game it was to ty and raise the sales of a mediocre (or worse) game. Even though I am sure this raised the sales of the game, and a wise marketing direction on their parts – I have to admit I believe the game could definately survive without this little bonus.
Its a “sandbox” game, and fits somewhat well with the GTA and Saints Row theme, but with a twist. You are a special agent that must eliminate various crime lords from your fair city, as you do so you gain experience in various different areas making your skills in that area increase.
Single Player (Story Mode): 8/10
There are 3 gangs that you must remove from your fine city, which entails taking out various lower level generals of the gang as well as the kingpin of that gang. I am currently playing the game on the medium difficulty level and I have to say that during single player play this can prove to be difficult often. You must pace yourself and think of the best strategy for the attack, but also build up your characters stats making you more powerful, which gives the 1 player mode a bit more to it.
Multiplayer (Co-Op Story): 7/10
This is actually the same as the 1 player story mode, you even use the same save file. The only reason the rating for this mode is lower then the single player campaign is a few things that I just dont think work well. For example, you can invite a friend to your game at any point, going from single player to co-op mode (similar to gears of war for example), but in order to invite your friend to “your current session”, it actually logs you out of your current session and restarts you – so any progress you might have made during that game (such as clearing a king pins hideout) would be lost. Additionally, the co-op player gets credit for and retains ALMOST everything you do together, the only thing thats not stored is the bosses that you take out – so that player will have to redo them all as a 1 player mode, or host a co-op session themselves, most everything else seems to be stored for the 2nd player. Finally it would be nice to have a local co-op mode as well as the xbox live version.
Graphics/game play: 10/10
The graphics are top notch, just take 20 cars and hit them with a rocket and be amazed at the explosion, the car parts flying everywhere, and finally the destruction after it is over. You have a variety of skills/ weapons at your disposal, and the controls filt well with the game.
Achievements: 10/10
Another great aspect of this game. I love the way the achievements are built, some of which are based on character development and some are based on simply messing around in the game, isn’t that what a sandbox is all about? For example you obtain achievements for removing the gang from the city, and you get achievements for getting 4 stars in a character developement area, but you can also get an achievement for climbing to the top of the highest building in the game (as well as one for jumping off of it into the little area of water below). The achievements are interesting and challenging at the same time, and they arent as simple as “beat the game on easy, medium and hard”.
In Short..
I have to be honest when I first heard that this game came with a Halo 3 invitation the first thing I said was “This game has to be rubbish”. In fact if you read my previous posts you will even find me bashing it at least once, perhaps more. I caved in though and gave it a try because it seemed like all my friends were getting it (and I do love a good co-op game), and the game store gave me a free pre-order (so $5 off), I figured I would give it a chance. It is one of the most recent games I have purchased and is slowly raising my Live Eye Profile as the most played game.
I give it a 8.5 out of 10
Crackdown: Hidden Orbs, Pictures AND Map
So I was doing my morning web browse for various information and realized I haven’t posted much lately. With the upcoming Crackdown all nighter, I think I might add collecting all 300 hidden orbs to my list of tasks I want to have completed that night (in addition to all the screwing around making videos that I am sure will happen)
These were not created or provided by me, but I figured it would be worth linking to them

New All Nighter: Crackdown
Xbox is having yet another all nighter. This time its going to be Crackdown. Rumor has it random people will be selected for Crackdown prizes.
Looks like I didn’t win anything on the Lost Planet all nighter, which they recently added comments from random participants, check it out.
If I am around for this all nighter – I would guess that some new video fun will come out of an all nighter.
More Crackdown videos
Ymiris and I had a bit of fun with the cameras and Crackdown again. Much of it turned out to be total rubbish, but I did record a pretty easy way to get the shot-putter achievement (and actually using that same building you can also get: Body Juggler, Car Juggler, Hazardous Hangtime, Front Flipper, and Driving High.
I am more happy with the results of a video with us just messing around with some rockets – its amazing how far his burning body bounces when its all over..
