Play & Win with Shooter

A bit late on releasing the news on this contest - but better late then never I guess you could say. Essentially you just play Gears of War, anytime between March 14 and 16. Each day you play versus mode you get 1 entry into the contest, so play all 3 days (like I plan to do) and you get 3 entries.

The prize is pretty impressive: (worth aproximately $770)

  • A Three-Month Xbox Live Gold Subscription Card
  • Xbox 360™ VIP Accessories Kit
    • Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
    • Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit

Gaming Recap 01/18/07

Well I am writing another recap of my gaming - mostly because I feel like I should keep blogging about something and most of the time I just dont keep up with xbox news enough to actually post about that here. My reviews and guides have died down - I will be writing up something in that regards soon I hope.

Last night was a marathon gaming night. I started the night with some Heavy Weapon, first some multiplayer with Heavy Weapon session i gained a couple achievements:

Then I switched gears and played some Gears of War . First I played some of Act 3 on co-op with Antediluvia. After he left for bed I played a couple rounds of versus, and then it was time to switch games again.

Then was about 30 minutes of Enchanted Arms which ended with me forgetting to save, and finding a battle I couldn’t win, so I am in the same place I was before that. Time to change games.

I haven’t given much time to Progect Gotham Racing 3, I still have it from gamefly but I just seem to put it below many of the other games I am playing right now. I picked up a couple of the achievements, all of which were the ones that dont really take any actual gaming effort.

yeah they could have actually spent some time and came up with different pictures, heh.

I ended the night with about 10 minutes of roboblitz, and I was beat so i went to sleep. It was a 4 hour session of straight gaming, more then I usually play thats for sure.

Guess What Came today?

I was told about the gamerspeak article this morning about the gears of war all nighter - and to finish off my day I got my prize - complete with Major AND Trixie signatures! Woot, sorry for the picture quality - its not easy to get a good picture of a xbox cover without glare.

Gaming Recap 01/15/07

Last night I put a couple more hours into Enchanted Arms, only about 8 hours into the game thus far. Which is tracked by the game itself, but also my Live Eye Profile registers about the same amount of time in game. I also gained my third achievement in the game.

Then once again I joined Ymiris for some Gears of War Co-op. We are almost complete with act 3 on insane. I finished insane a bit ago - but nothing beats a good night of co-op, especially with a friend, and an added side benefit I finally found the checkpoint that I was missing for the final achievement I can recieve for non-versus mode.

Finally just found out I made it into Gamer Speak for participating in the Gears of War All Nighter. Thanks Antediluvia for pointing this out!

Tequila + Gears + Baby + No Sleep = Happy New Years!

Well as I said before since we have absolutely nothing going on for New Years, and with a new baby in the house - I was happy to see the gears of war all nighter event. I didn’t have a big party or anything like that - but that is the great thing about Xbox Live, you can play with a friend without having anyone in your house to steal your drinks and food =) I showed up a bit later then expected - my wife decided to stay up much later then usual, but then I dove right into the action.

Keep in mind I am by far not the best Gears player out there - in fact I am not very good at all, but its all about fun isnt it? So around 10:30 PM EST I started up my xbox, and fired up Gears of War.

As you can see I started out all ready tired - I am sure its because I rarely get much sleep lately while helping take care of our newborn daughter. Who I have downstairs with me, no sense in having my wife have to wake up and care for the baby if I am going to be up playing xbox for the night.

Not a very good quality picture - but here is my television sitting on the match making screen for my first match of the night. I decided that I would play Xbox Live Ranked games for the period of time that I was online tonight - and maybe even get to unlock some of those versus achievements.

Here is the first of many losses.

Although I did end up getting a bit better and got quite a number of kills over the night, if I didnt know better I would say it was because of the tequila.

Just before the final hour of 2006 my daughter woke up for one of her night time feedings - so time for a break…

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Ouch my head

Ok we won one! Now time for some sleep

That was quite a bit of gaming, as you can see by my Live Eye Profile I played about 4 hours of straight Gears of War, and then about 2 hours of Saints Row (just to change it up a bit), and I still have quite a long ways to go before I gain any of the versus achievements, but I made more progress then than any other time I played in versus mode towards one or more of these goals.

This was a quick blog to run down the nightly activities for my Gears of War 2006 celebration. Clearly giving you a play by play would not be very interesting to anyone but those that have read every other article the entire internet has to offer and have made it there life mission to read every article, and posting, available on the internet. But in short, I had a blast and met quite a few new friends, and unfortunately a few people that are best to just be avoided (but very few). If you ran into me during this gaming session, and also somehow find and read my blog, leave me some comments =)

Update 11:08 AM EST
I just read this over again and have come to the conclusion that the Tequila got the best of me - I have never been much of a writer - but this was clearly written under the influence of alcohol.

If you want to see more family photos check out my family blog - which contains tons of family pictures and such - if you are into that kind of thing (www.larrabeefamily.com).

Gears of War New Years!

I just happened to load up the Unscripted 360 blog and happened to see a post about an interesting New Years attraction……Gears of War All Nighter. Call me a nerd if you want, but this just made my day. With 2 kids (and one less then 2 weeks old) we definately won’t be doing anything special for New Years this year. So normally i would probably be just playing what I could for the night - but I am going to make a very large effort to play just Gears and all night!! (with small interuptions to care for my new daughter). As the official posting from xbox.com says - I will probably blog about it here, and submit it to them - hell I wouldn’t mind one of those 10 free copies of Gears signed by Major Nelson.

So if you are looking for someone to kill (or need a partner for co-op) - hit me up tomorrow after 10PM EST, and if you are interesting in seeing if I make it all night - well my The Live Eye will be keeping a watch on me =)

Gaming Recap 12/15/06

As posted in my previous post I played College Hoops 2k6 for about 45 minutes or so - getting 3 of the 5 achievements.

these by far have to be the easiest achievements ever recieved - the achievement system has definately expanded for the better since the launch titles. At least on most more recent games it feels like you actually Achieved something.

I also played a pretty good amount of Gears of War, mostly on Versus. One game it was 1 versus 4 (because my team all quit - needless to say I didnt do so well, and then I ended up teaming with 3 of those 4 on the next game. It was a blast a couple times we did quad curb stomps =)
I also helped out IAmMrTea08 for a small amount of Act 3.
Finally I played Act one a bit working on a walkthrough that I planned on writing - but keep putting off, I ended up with an achievement during that process too

Played some Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - still havent completed this one, but I think I am getting pretty close the end of the story.

Finally I also played Need for Speed: Carbon - mostly on challenge series events, and getting closer to the silver challenge achievement - finally completed the canyon drift race that was giving me tons of trouble too

It was one marathon of gaming - check out my Live Eye Profile to see more details

Gaming Recap 12/13/06

I played Marvel Ultimate Alliance for only about 30 minutes while my wife was giving our son a bath. Since it was only 30 minutes I made very little progress, but continued to clear more of the current mission I am on.

Then later on last night I put Gears of War in for a spin. It was about a four hour gaming session, first I joined IAmMrTea08 for a quick co-op session, and then we went over to versus mode and invited Just Jr. After a couple rounds of versus, I finished off with some co-op with Just Jr, finishing Act 4 and Act 5 on insane and getting my final 2 COG Tags.

Completed Act 4 on Insane Completed Act 5 on Insane Commando For the Fallen

I finished off the night working on my garden in Viva Piñata. I was kind of torn if I was going to like this game but so far I have been having a blast. Picked up a few new achievements on it last night too.

Cog Tag Locations Revealed

Well I found about 15 of these on my own the first past through the game, and I planned on writing up a guide on the locations….but of course someone beat me to it

ACT 1

Prison area
COG Tag 1 - Right after you make your choice of paths, there is a tag straight ahead under the Gear logo. Can’t miss it(Rear of the courtyard, directly across from the cell area)

COG Tag 2 - In the room where the locusts cut through the door. If you are looking directly at the door they cut through, you can find it back and to the left(Under the stairway opposite the one you decended if you took the training route)

COG Tag 3 - As you exit the above mentioned door into the courtyard, there is a stairway to the left. Run up the stairs and turn left right at the top. The COG tag is in the near side corner (If enemies are North, it would be in the SW corner of the patio area, this one isnt directly under the gears logo)

Trial By fire
COG Tag 4 - Your team points this one out to you. In the first small courtyard, look to the right of the Gear logo(Beyond the short last wall in the yard’s center)

COG Tag 5 - You cross a bridge over a road and enter a building. Once you enter the building with all the pillars and the two emergence holes, it’s just behind the second emergence hole in some weeds(Just before the troika on the left)

COG Tag 6 - You fight through the roadways with the Trioka guns and get to the open area with the fountain in the center. There are 4 emergence holes here. The COG tag is in the far left corner(Opposite the 4th emergence hole that appears)

Knock Knock
COG Tag 7 - You’re told to gain entrance to the house of sovereigns. You’ll enter an open area with stairs leading up to the building. To your far left you’ll see a white van with the Gear logo painted on it. Follow the massive hole in the street on the left all the way up, sticking to the edge. The COG tag is in the corner made by where the wall extends over part of the stairs.

COG Tag 8 - In the hallway where Jack has to open the door, there are a ton of annoying wretches. If you’re facing the door that Jack is opening, it’s in the far left corner. Be sure to grab this one after you defeat them, that way you’re not in a REALLY bad spot after they appear.
COG Tag 9 - There’s a small room that you enter where you’ll find the body of Rojas. As you come down the stairs into this small area, turn right immediately(hard to see, its in the shadowy area to the right behind the pillar)

China Shop
COG Tag 10 - This ones easy, after the cutscene where the Berserker kills a soldier, look in the flames on the right(This is right at the beginning of the level)
COG Tag 11 - There will be 3 smashable doors. as you proceed through this area. Look in the alcove to the left(facing the door)at the FINAL door you take to exit the courtyard.
COG Tag 12 - Just after COG Tag 11, you exit into an open courtyard. Follow the semi-circle wall and head left. The tag is on the other side of a block just after you see the logo. If the room was a clock, the Tag would be between 8 and 9(right against the semi circular wall)….be sure to get this one BEFORE you kill the Berserker, as you CANNOT after.

ACT II

Tick Tick Boom
COG Tag 13 - After your choose a path (either one, doesn’t matter) and reunite, You’ll enter a small room with two stairways in it, one in the very middle of the room that leads down to a couch. Kill the Couch…ENJOY!!
COG Tag 14 - There’s a room with a catwalk that square shaped. When you exit, you head down some stairs into the street. Turn around and run back the alley formed by the stairs you came down and the wall of the next building. The Tag is at the end of that alleyway, behind a rock.

COG Tag 15 - Just before you enter the Settlement, you come up the stairs where the Boomer was, the Tag is behind a newspaper machine. Facing ahead as you come up the stairs, it’ll be to the back and left(keep this in mind, its as viewed while you face the gate)
Outpost
COG Tag 16 - On your way to checkpoint 2, facing the first emergence hole, you’ll see a propane tank in a shed to your left. BE SURE to shoot the propane tank here and grab the Tag.
End Lethal Dusk/Beginning Dark Labyrinth
COG Tag 17 - When you enter the area where you have to use the spotlight, after you guide Dom through, move the spotlight to the far left (as you’re holding the light) area near where you entered. The COG Tag is in that corner area. just to the left of the lit room of the blown out building, on the street(Near the rusted out car)

Dark Labyrinth
COG Tag 18 - After you run out of the destroyed building here, look right…it will be displayed in the light here..if the kryll attack you…you’ve gone too far.

ACT III

Downpour
COG Tag 19 - In the open, rainy area next to the sea, go behind the building that has the elevator in it….walk out on the narrow wooden dock..its at the far end.

COG Tag 20 - In the room with the rotting floorboards, the Tag is in the far right corner….be sure to stay on the metal beam to get it(the far right as you enter the room)

End Evolution/Beginning Coalition Cargo
COG Tag 21 - When you enter the room with the carts, go down the stairs to the car area and turn around. The Tag is to the left of the stairs as you face them(In the gap between the stairs and the wall…be sure NOT to activate the carts 1st)

Darkest Before Dawn
COG Tag 22 - After you ride down the drilling platforms, stick to the wall on the right. There will be a path leading down to the right, follow that to find the COG Tag and some grenades.

COG Tag 23 - In the next area after Tag 22. you’ll enter an open area with a small building on the right side. Just to the right of the stairs leading up to that buildling, you’ll find the Tag.

COG Tag 24 - After you choose your paths, and reunite, you’ll fight through a narrow hallway with a lot of cover. Just after the hallway and before you exit the area, turn around and the Tag is on a narrow ledge over the pool. (To your right as you leave the hallway, or to your left after you turn around)

ACT IV

Campus Grinder
COG Tag 25 - As you enter the first area, on the right there are two small staircases. The Tag is behind the second small staircase.

Bad To Worse
COG Tag 26 - As you enter the second area, before you go down the sidewalk with the columns to enter the conservatory, there is a rusty car on in the street. If you’re facing the columns, it’s back and to your right behind that car.

Imaginary Place
COG Tag 27 - In the second section of the estate, there’s a shield shaped room (square top, semi circle bottom) with 4 columns in it, and a desk. Destroy the desk. Tag is underneath.

ACT V

Train Wreck
COG Tag 28 - Right inside the door that Jack rips open…the 5th train car…look left as soon as you walk in.
COG Tag 29 - Before you climb the ladder to the 3rd car’s roof, the Tag is on the floor here.

COG Tag 30 - Your final Tag is on the floor of the storage room in the 5th car of the train’s 3rd section….grab this one before you advance to the end battle, as you wont get a chance to come back.
